One of the most inspiring things we’ve heard all year about Magic of Myths: Faerie – the story has been used to teach year 10 students Shakespeare and drama at Leeds West Academy, due to its accessible use of Shakespearean language and themes.

We’re delighted to hear this, given Season one has already been used in another school to teach mythology.

If you want to use any of our books in your school, please get in touch.

Geek Native loves Magic of Myths: Faerie (review) July 2, 2015

Excellent entertainment site Geek Native has offered a very positive review of Magic of Myths: Faerie:

“We have Corey Brotherson’s writing style to be grateful of again; he has the ability to quickly bring characters to life and balance the persona building with the action. We also have Sergio Calvert’s cartoonist meets graphic design skills. His is also an unique style that’s rather beyond my ability to describe; somehow invoking traditional four colour art with the subtlety and textures of detailed pieces.”

  • Two pin-ups (with some of the artwork you’ve seen on this very site) by Magic of Myths artist, Sergio Calvet
  • The full script

Review snippets:

“The end result is a beautiful book, one that honours its subject matter and provides a perfect on ramp to the larger story being told. Corey and Sergio are two of the best creators in the industry and this is some of their best work. Pick it up, and the rest of Magic of Myths, and find out just how good they are.” – Travelling Man

“I loved it… I smiled broadly at Calvet and Corey’s interpretation of Shakespeare’s Puck as a feisty forthwright feminist – her appearance too is very unique and refreshing – not conforming to usual stereotypical ideas of a what a female hero should look like.” – Elf Lyons

“Overall? It’s a very solid entry into the Magic of Myths series, serving well as an entry point for new fans while also holding a lot of appeal for those already invested.”  – Geek Pride

Lovely and talented comedian Elf Lyons has read Magic of Myths: Faerie – and she quite liked it:

“I loved it… I smiled broadly at Calvet and Corey’s interpretation of Shakespeare’s Puck as a feisty forthwright feminist – her appearance too is very unique and refreshing – not conforming to usual stereotypical ideas of a what a female hero should look like.”

Our book was actually tied with the classic Daniel Clowes graphic novel Ghost World for Elf’s ‘comic book of the week’ – to be put alongside Clowes brilliant work is amazing in itself.  You can read the whole article here:

As we gear up for the launch of Magic of Myths: Faerie on 18th April 2015 at the Birmingham Comics Festival this week, we’ve been getting a fair few kind words sent our way of late.

First up, massive second city newspaper The Birmingham Mail did a feature on the book, interviewing Corey:

“It made sense, given that the festival is a Birmingham-based event created by a Brummie, while my book is written by a Brummie – me – and based on a work by one of the most famous Midlanders in the world.”

You can read the whole feature here: http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/whats-on/whats-on-news/birmingham-comics-festival-magic-myths-8946767

We’ve also got our first review over at Geek Pride, gaining a respectable 3 and a half out of 5 and some thoughtful praise:

“Overall? It’s a very solid entry into the Magic of Myths series, serving well as an entry point for new fans while also holding a lot of appeal for those already invested.”

You can read the whole review here: http://www.geek-pride.co.uk/comics/magic-of-myths-faerie/

We’ve had more written about Magic of Myths: Faerie recently, so we’ll be revealing more soon – in the meantime, don’t forget to take advantage of our pre-order discount offer before Saturday 18th April.
