One of the biggest comic book sites online, Comic Book Resources, has very kindly put Magic of Myths under the spotlight for today’s Month of African-American Comics slot:

S1+S2 cover

had this to say:

“Eve is a fascinating lead and I am glad they framed it so that the first volume was alllll about us learning a lot about Eve – both her personality AND her personal history. So by the time the events of Season 2 take place, we know Eve so well that the story takes on an even greater significance since we know the lead so well.

“This is an engaging series with charming artwork from the main artist. I hope to see more of Eve’s heroic journey in the future.”

Thanks for the kind words Brian, and for taking the time to look at the series.

Hard drive company Seagate may not be well known for its creative aspect, but you’d be surprised – Seagate Social covers a wide variety of creative subjects in their cool blog. And after a great chance-meeting with Jonathan (who writes the blog) at San Diego Comic-Con, Corey was asked to do an interview about Magic of Myths and the writing process.

A little nod to Harryhausen, from Sergio May 9, 2013

Magic of Myths artist, Sergio, was originally working on this pin-up as an homage to Ray Harryhausen, who is one of the main influences in Sergio’s design of the fantasy world shown in Magic of Myths.

He didn’t intend it to be a posthumous homage and was as saddened as anyone to hear of his passing. But it’s still a very fitting tribute to the departed special effects master.

Here’s to you, Mr Harryhausen.

It’s important to pay credit where it’s due.

Ray Harryhausen has passed away. The man, whose genius help make fantasy and mythology on the big screen a very real, very magical thing, inspired generations with his work. The impossible, made possible through his hands and imagination.

He was a giant in special effects and SFX direction. And simply put, without Ray Harryhausen, there would be no Magic of Myths. Nor, we imagine, would there be a lot of other works out there that we enjoy today.

Good night and thank you, Mr Harryhausen.

Sergio’s added some colour to our first double page spread for Magic of Myths: season two – so now you can see it in all its sunset-hued, gory glory:

During our creative discussions for season one, we decided to give the gods a bronze or gold plated (depending on their allegiance) statue look to add to their glittering – or tarnished – larger than life visage. As big fans of the legendary Ray Harryhausen, this double page spread brings together our references to his work, as well as being a big moment for the story.

We won’t give away much more info on this spread, but if you’re wondering (quick bolded clue, there for DC Comics fans) who the vicious lady with the sword is in the battle – that would be Diana, Roman goddess of the hunt and the moon…

It’s always nice to start the new year with some good news, so we’re happy to see that Magic of Myths: season one has got another positive review to its name – this time over at the New Readers… Start Here! blog:

Magic of Myths feels like it’s been written from the heart, like it’s really important to Brotherson, and so it’s a surprisingly thoughtful and contemplative book.  I say surprising, because the art is quite cartoony and if you just swept your eye over the page you would probably think this was a simple, lighthearted read, however it is far more than that.

You can read the whole review here: http://paipicks.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/magic-of-myths-season-1.html

Many thanks to Saranga for her time and the kind review.
